OUR INITIATIVES
Remembrance Day Banners
Back in September, the Downtown Langley Business Association was approached by a very talented photographer by the name of Brian Bury. He had a collection of Veteran portraits that he was compiling with the intentions of producing a book. He suggested that the DLBA consider producing banners for Remembrance Day and the Board of Directors embraced the idea immediately. Not only was it seen as an opportunity for the businesses to honour those who fought for our Country, but it was also viewed as a way to bring attention to our local Legion and all that they do for our community as well.
Forty banners have been produced and installed along Douglas Crescent between 204th and 206th Street, around City Hall, on 204th Street between Douglas Crescent and Fraser Highway and Fraser Highway between 204th and 206th Streets.
The Business Association hopes to expand this program next year by another 40 banners, to cover more area and to continue honoring our Veterans, Remembrance Day and all that it signifies. This was a wonderful project for the DLBA and they want to sincerely thank Brian Bury of Bury Images, Instant Imprints who produced the banners so professionally and the City of Langley who ensured that the banners were installed properly and on time.

Beautification and anti graffiti accomplished at the same time!
In partnership with BC Hydro and the City of Langley, seventeen Hydro and traffic boxes were wrapped throughout the downtown this summer. This is just another example of how by working together we can accomplish more than we ever could alone.

The Langley BIA is always working in the areas of business enhancement, marketing and community improvement.
The BIA takes a proactive role in keeping our community involved and safe by successfully acting as the liaison between the City of Langley, our all-volunteer Ambassador Program and our community at large. With the assistance of sponsorship monies and in-kind training from various businesses, our ambassadors are able to record, photograph and relay important information to the City of Langley staff for follow up. This includes unsightly premises, graffiti and any other obstruction or eyesore that we can successfully circumvent to ensure that visitors enjoy their time with us.
The Langley BIA is represented on the following City of Langley committees:
- Tourism Langley
- 10 X 10 Challenge Committee
- Community Day Committee
- Social Planning Committee
- Langley Christmas Bureau
- Local Government Awareness Day Committee
- Langley Senior Resource Centre Committee
- Recreation, Culture and Public Art Advisory Committee
- Magic of Christmas Parade Committee
- Police Advisory Committee
This level of involvement allows us to work closely with our local government to assist with individual business concerns and neighbourhood challenges for the benefit of all.
Our BIA worked in conjunction with the City of Langley to help resolve the challenge of limited parking in the downtown. By asking the Ipsos Reid question regarding how long the average person stayed to visit our downtown, we were able to work with the City of Langley to provide free two hour, three hour and unlimited parking areas throughout the downtown to ensure our visitors would all be accommodated.
Our provincially award winning, “Gold Star Program” recognized our efforts to provide those visitors having a physical disability or impairment to locate the most accessible places to shop, dine or stay. Also understanding the importance that the environment plays in a sustainable downtown, our “Go Green” program also received provincial recognition for our efforts to minimize our carbon footprint and respect those who will enjoy our downtown for years to come.
Langley City BIA works closely with the City of Langley to identify and encourage independent retailers to set up shop in Langley City. This involves liaising with commercial realtors and assisting our existing businesses looking to relocate or expand within the city. Our association actively supports and participates in business recruitment and retention and economic revitalization efforts in our business improvement area.
We strive to provide special events and advertising promotions that bring value to our business community and that will economically and culturally enhance our community and city. Annual BIA events (both led and supported) include Arts Alive, Community Day Parade and Celebration, Magic of Christmas Parade, Langley Good Times Cruise In, Canada Day and various Communities in Bloom events.
The Langley BIA is proud to be active members and supporters of:
- The Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce
- Tourism Langley
- BIABC
- Langley Lions Club
- Langley Central and Sunrise Rotary Clubs
- Langley Food Bank
- Langley Christmas Bureau
- Gateway of Hope
- Langley Soroptimists
- Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation
… and numerous other amazing organizations that continue to make Langley “The Place to Be.”
