What are Downtown Dollars?

Downtown Dollars are a local spending program designed to support small, independent businesses in Downtown Langley. They can be used like cash at participating shops, restaurants, and service providers, with no cost or fees for your business to accept them.

Similar to a gift card (with no expiry), they can be used on their own or combined with cash, debit, or credit card.

Every Downtown Dollar spent is 100% reimbursed by the Downtown Langley Business Association, helping keep money circulating within our local business community.

How do Downtown Langley businesses sign up?

Signing up is quick and easy. With a minimal one-time registration fee of $25, your business will be added to the official list of participating businesses – distributed with every Downtown Dollar, giving you valuable exposure to local customers.

You’ll also receive a complimentary poster to display in your window, helping to promote your participation and attract more foot traffic.

How do I accept Downtown Dollars at my business?

It’s simple – treat Downtown Dollars just like cash at checkout. No special equipment or setup is required.

Customers can use them for purchases of any size and can combine them with other payment methods, just like a gift card.

How do businesses get reimbursed?

Every Downtown Dollar you collect is reimbursed 100% by the Downtown Langley Business Association. There are no ongoing fees, and the process is straightforward and reliable.

Simply drop off your Downtown Dollars at the DLBA office:

Please bundle them together and include your business name and total amount. A receipt will be provided, and reimbursement by cheque will be processed within approximately 14 business days.

Do Downtown Dollars expire?

No – Downtown Dollars never expire. Customers can spend them at any time, and you can accept them year-round with confidence.

When did the Downtown Dollar program start?

The program launched in 2011 as a way to compete with big-box gift cards and encourage spending within Downtown Langley’s locally owned businesses.

How many businesses participate?

More than 100 businesses across 35+ categories currently accept Downtown Dollars, including retail, restaurants, and service-based businesses.
